Among the three cars of the German team, the pair Nasser Al-Attiyah/ Timo Gottschalk made the best time of the first day among the cars. Following them, only 4 minutes behind, Brazilians Mauricio Neves/ Eduardo Bampi got the second place. The Spanish pair Carlos Sainz/ Lucas Cruz got the third place, scoring 2h35min52s50. Jean Azevedo/ Youssef Haddad came fourth.
To Nasser, debuting in Sertões, the first day was already challenging. The first day was not easy at all. We faced dangerous sections. We started on 10th and overtook six cars. But I am very happy to drive a Touareg at Sertões, said the Qatari pilot.

The pair Jean Azevedo and Youssef Haddad started in first place and made navigation mistakes. But they managed to make a good recovery race and got the 4th place, right behind the German cars. We were well when we got back after the mistakes, and we are happy with our performance. Some mistakes are acceptable, but we will work to get well and race the next nine days in a more relaxed mood, told the pilot.
