1Well known by racers and followers of the Sertões International Rally, the race passed by Barra on its 15th edition. Located near São Francisco river, it has 47,441 inhabitants and 11,333 sq km.
Around 1870, Barra was declared a city, and has played an important part on the occupation of the region during the years 1660/ 1670.
Its location around São Francisco river made Barra one of the most important commercial posts for river navigation, but the growth of the road system has harmed the region, abandoned by many government offices.
Nowadays, Barra has a strong touristic potential, like Icatu Dunes, where visitors can find several trail and roads for off-road riding, and also the boat rides along the river. The beauty of its dunes and crystal waters praises the place. In the region of Brejos da Barra project, there are many waterfalls and springs.
