Ike Klaumann avoided making bigger mistakes and was the fastest motorbike rider in the second stage of the Sertões International Rally, that took place between Pirenópolis (GO) and Porangatu (GO). The rider stated that he was cautious, attributing his victory to this and to the fact of not having left the route.
Thursday was a long day in Goiás: there 40 km in initial liaison, 292 timed kilometers and 258 km in the final haul. The stage was very difficult, hard with lots of potholes, stones, more locked stretches and navigation [important], he said.
There was a lot of danger, so it was easy for the rider to fall and hurt himself. I tried to ride safely: where I wasnt sure that I could go fast, I slowed down and went calmly. Just right. I also didnt want to err in the navigation, and this was important for the result. The motorbike is 100% on top, the winner of the second stage added, and he further declared that he had done well in the trickier stretches.
The leader, having completed the two stages, Felipe Zanol pointed out the competitiveness and complemented his adversarys performance. I am three seconds ahead of Ike. He carried out a very strong test. I tried to go cautiously, without forcing matters too much, because you dont win a rally in one day, but you do lose it, he stated.
It was a long day: almost 600 km, counting the liaisons. Today was more complicated, with three radar zones, fueling. The Sertões International Rally began showing itself. I made two small mistakes, I lost some time, but I think that without them the results would not be any different.
The Frenchman, Cyril Despres, three time champion of the Dakar, was the third fastest, same position as he will start off this Friday, when the competitors will head from Prangatu (GO) to Gurupi (TO).
