Overcoming, news, surprise and victory. These were the feelings that followed the champion team in Production category cars, Carlos Policarpo and Rômulo Espada.
Adjusting a new car for the rally at home, setting up a team also at home and not having time to try out the adjustments made in the vehicle. Those were the obstacles faced by the team before the rally started. We didnt have time to practice. We tried testing the car during the RN 1.500, but we couldnt because it rained a lot. We were here for five days and we did not race in any competition, said the pilot.
But every rally is about overcoming and is full of news, competitors in car 320 had more difficulties during the more than 5 thousand kilometers of competition. We capsized on the fourth day and ruined the car a lot, losing two days of race. And in the marathon stage we began without the third and fourth gear, which are the main ones in the car. We were able to finish the competition. Already on the second day we had to cross the big sand area with the second gear alone, said Policarpo, proud with his accomplishment.
The victory that we won in Natal with great advantage, around 9 hours to the second position, was a major surprise for the pilot. We practiced here. We just brought the car to Sertões and said: lets see what happens. This victory was, really, a surprise not just for me, but for the entire rally. We overcame our expectations and of all competitors, celebrated Policarpo.
Winning everything After overcoming so many challenges and problems, the current champion in the Production category is anxious to race his fifth Sertões International Rally and can only think about the highest spot in the podium. I already have higher expectations for the next year. This year we came to get to know the race and we achieved the highest position. Next year we will come to compete, for real. We will enter thinking about winning, states the pilot of car 320, and warning his competitors, Policarpo says that 2009 will have even more trophies. We are in first in the Brazilian Championship and in August starts São Paulos Championship and we will fight to win both of them, concludes the champion.
