Considered number one pilot of the German team Volkswagen, Carlos Sainz once again wrote his name in the history of the blue team this Friday, 3rd, winning the 17th Sertões International Rally.

Last January, he raced the Dakar Rally with his Touareg, in its first edition in South America, and since then, his name is a powerful one in Brazil, due to the advantage he had in the world’s largest rally.

Nevertheless, in Dakar, Sainz had an accident and left the first place to De Villiers Sertões 2008 champion. Now, the history did not repeat, and Carlos Sainz got the title of the main Brazilian off-road , battling against the other Volkswagen pilot for the title, only this time, his target was Nasser Al-Attiyah.

Sertões International Rally was also Sainz’s début in Brazilian lands. Aged 47, the Madrid born pilot has a curriculum full of prizes. Before competing in Cross Country, Sainz wrote his history in the Speed Rally World Championship. From 1987 to 2006, he collected 26 victories, 96 podiums, won 756 stages, and was the winner in 1990 and1992 seasons.

In 2006 he took a Volkswagen wheel for the first time, racing the Dakar in a Touareg since then, he competed in all editions of the main off-road race in the world.
