A little over six months after Rally Dakar, in which he had an accident and could not continue in the competition, Carlos Sainz is once again establishing his position as the winner in the off-road scenario. This Friday, in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, the Spanish pilot, next to navigator Lucas Cruz, won the title of the 17th edition of Sertões International Rally.

Once again, Sainz had to fight, from special to special, for the victory with a team partner. While in Dakar, the Spanish sought for the first position against Volkswagen Giniel de Villiers colleague, now the battle was against Nasser Al-Attiyah both with a Touareg of the Germany assembling company.

Sainz won four specials 2nd, 6th, 8th and 9th in Sertões International Rally, and started in the last competition in the lead, with an advantage of 3min53. He was ahead in the competition until he got lost in a location of the road book.

The mistake gave Nasser the advantage in the trail and the best time in the end of the competition. The Spanish however, was happy with third time, but with a smaller difference than his advantage. He finished the special with 2min43 after Al-Attiyah, that is, by 1min09, Sainz was confirmed champion for the first time in Sertões International Rally.

Sertões also established Sainz’s launching in Brazilian lands, and since 2006, when he participated for the first time in the wheel of a Volkswagen Touareg from Dakar, he has been competing in all editions of the main off-road competition in the planet.
