The first day of the 2011 Sertões International Rally for motorbikes was marked by a short timed stretch of 83 kilometers, but a difficult one with dust, stones and the need to get the navigation right. Dário Julio Lopes de Souza dealt with all of this very well this Wednesday, between Goiânia and Pirenópolis (GO), and started the test ahead.
According to the rider of a CRF-450X, there will be the need for much intelligence and strategy if the rally continues this way. It was a heavy day, lots of stones, lots of navigation, he said. The route had other options, so then the rider had to be very alert to the road book in order not to go the wrong way. It was a stone day. If the entire rally is like today, the rider will have to dose, spare the machine, because it was heavy.
Dário also told that at a certain point, due to the dust and the difficulty to overtake, he preferred to stay behind an adversary for over 20 kilometers rather than pass him on the road.
The first to start and to arrive on this first day, Felipe Zanol was the second fastest and revealed that he had a bit of difficulty along the route. It was a very technical day. I ended up getting lost at the beginning, I lost a minute, but thats ok. The equipment was up-to-date, the motorbike is just right, I had no scares. Now the bike has to be revised for tomorrow, he stated.
The Competitors will go from Pirenópolis to Porangatu (GO) this Thursday. It will be a total of 590 kilometers. 292 of these will be timed.
