Denísio do Nascimento is launching nearly twice. Two years ago in the off-road, he could be considered a beginner in the sport if it wasn’t for the leadership in the Brazilian Championship in bikes, and the 2nd position in the general classification of Sertões International Rally, aside from the title in the Sport category. All of this in his lunching in the competition.

The fight with Zé Hélio was a direct competition, from stage to stage, in which he was trying to decrease the advantage that the five times champion of Sertões opened in the very first day. The mistakes were identified, and Deni, aged 31, promises to be back in 2010, “but this time to fight for the title”.

“In the first day I started hasty, without knowledge of the road book, I got confused. It was my first Sertões and I was too nervous. On the second day I adjusted myself to the equipment”, he recalled about his first Sertões. “I was far behind every day because I didn’t compete for the Global, and I had to overtake a lot of bikes and quads, and this is very complicated. I can say that is where I lost the race”, he pointed out.

The competitor from Santa Catarina promises to learn from his mistakes to be back in 2010 ready to fight for Sertões International Rally title. For him, the first mistake was when he enrolled, by not being in the same category as Zé Hélio. “To fight with him, you have to be in the same category as he is, starting next to him. Of course we were aiming to win, but we knew about the difficulties and mistakes”, said Deni, who made his first competition next to international pilots between Goiás and Rio Grande do Norte.

But being in the Sport category gave him an even greater advantage in the Brazilian Championship, in which he added points when racing in Sertões. “Now it is a matter of managing this advantage”, celebrated the pilot, which initiated his career in 2008 , racing the Brazilian Championship.

Denísio is ready to say what were his mistakes, what did he learn and what did he get right during the rally. His major problem was the navigation, since in the Brazilian Championship the itineraries are not in road book. The correct thing was that I kept myself calm during the specials.

“Sometimes I was riding at a speed lower than I was supposed to, but I knew I had to hold back, ride less, so I would not make mistakes or lose for some silly matter”, he said.

Happy with the result, he compliments the structure of the competition and considers it to be the world’s best in quality. “Every day is a new challenge. You need to be highly focused to get to the end. It is a great satisfaction to finish the race”, said Deni.

Reference To win Sertões International Rally title in the next years, Denísio says he has a “reference” in the competition, the five times champion, Zé Hélio. “He is the reference in the sport to all Brazilians, and maybe even overseas”, he said.

Aside from Zé Hélio, Deni says he had a very rich exchange of experience with all pilots, national and international. “I tried to take advantage of this, learn from Zé. I think that if a pilot focuses on working to win Sertões, they can take him out of this position in the next editions”, he said.

His success is not only due to his work, but his entire team, who worked restlessly and was not impacted by the problems that appeared. “The major lesson I will take from this race is: Never give up. Fight till the end”, concludes the pilot.
