An unusual accident almost happened in the fifth stage of the Sertões International Rally, which took place between Gurupi (TO) and Lizarda (TO) on Sunday. The duo Arilo de Alencar Jr/Daniel Simon almost hit head on the service car carrying Eduardo Sachs, the person responsible surveying the rally’s route. Luckily nothing happened, but it was a big fright.

The Brasil Off-Road representatives, who after fixing the gear Box of their Mitsubishi L200 Evolution, which had blocked in fifth gear, wanted to complete the special in time and didn’t spare efforts to do so. Except that there were already service personnel circulating in the area.

“The hampers [that carry out the cleaning of the trail] had already reached us, because even the trucks had already passed the stretch”, the navigator Daniel told us. “All the technical support teams were half organized to leave. We advised the pelican that we were back in the race and had to to do somehow or the other be very fast.”

That was when on a long straight stretch the met Sachs’ car, that was going around slowly. “It was Eduardo flying to one side and the car to the other. We almost missed the entrance. Eduardo put his hand to his head and got really mad”, he said.

A day before, on the Saturday, another incident marked the duo, Alencar Jr/Daniel Simon’s day: “We had to go look for the battery in the shrub, because the support team forgot to tighten it on and, due to this, the car turned off. After we found it, we put it back into the car”. There are plenty of stories like this in the Sertões International Rally

Paulo Lima has a lot to tell about his race. Together with his navigator, Daniel Gay, he has already faced various problems, from a punctured tire to breaking the gear shift.

But the turning over was the most outstanding moment for them up to now. “Although having overturned on Saturday, we turned the car back over. The windshield broke and we threw it out, we put on motorbike goggles and continued the test. We started looking for the rest of the drivers. But a wheel came loose because of turning over qnd we couldn’t finish the special” , he said.

The driver, who is participating in the Sertões International Rally for the fourth time, asserted that he is still motivated, even after the incidents, because driving in a test as this is worthwhile: “Even though we are behind, we want to finish, participate, it is fun. Every day there is a different type of terrain, a characteristic of the rally. It’s all a driver can ask for. Mindless of the results”.
