Teresina (PI) (foto: )
Teresina is the capital of Piauí and is located in the Center-north of the State, 366 kilometers from the sea it is the only capital in the Northeast that does not border the Atlantic Ocean.
The central part of the city is situated between the Paraniba and the Poti Rivers, that are part of the Parnaiba hydrographic basin. For this reason, some people call the capital of Piaui the Mesopotamia of the Northeast.
The city is surrounded by coconut Woods, thickets and scrubs, where there are many carnauba, babassu, buriti, jatoba, cinnamon, ipes and other medium sized native trees. In the region there are also remnants of the Atlantic Forest, that makes the landscape lush with dense tree covering.
Teresina has a semi-humid tropical climate, with two well defined seasons: the rainy season (Summer and autumn) and the dry season (winter and spring). During the most part of the year it is hot with an average temperature of about 27°C, with minimum temperatures of 20°C and maximum of 35°C.
A curiosity: as the region receives a large amount of thunder and lightning, the city is nicknamed the Chapada do Corisco (lightning plateau).
