The city of Catalão has about 95 thousand inhabitants and is well known as the Land of Rivers and the City of Flowers.

It has four amphitheaters and is the homeland of the popular musician, Armando Batista. The famous congadas are Its main cultural movement, these are folkloric and religious manifestations in honor of the Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos (Our Lady of the Black Rosary). The festivity that occurs every last Friday of the month of September attracts around 100 thousand visitors to the city.
In spite of being only the 14th most populated city in the state of Goiás, Catalão has the states fith largest GNP.
