Directly from Santa Helena Driving fast and willing to get the best time, Volkswagen pilot Nasser Al-Attiyah capsized his Touareg during the Super Prime at Santa Helena (GO), in the end of the first stage of the dispute.
After the first lap, when entering a curve to the left with a gap, the car went out of control and fell in the hole. The organization got mobilized very quickly in order to check if pilot and navigator needed medical assistance. They didnt.
Nasser waived from into the car, asking for the people to turn it back up. After lots of effort from the staff and photographers, the car was put back in place and the pilot was able to drive to the finish line. Check the photo sequence here.
There was a sharp curve to the left, I stepped on the gas a little too much, and there was also some bad luck (chuckle). But everything is all right, it was a good day today, and we will pursue a good result tomorrow, said the pilot.
