Summary of the rally: from the prologue to the 5th stage that took place yesterday

Summary of the Prologue and the Super Prime (Tuesday 8/9): Goiânia (GO)

The prologue, which took place in the Goiânia (GO) racetrack was the dispute that defined the starting order of the vehicles on the next day, effectively, the first stage of the rally: from the ninth until the last place of the prologue were already defined ad the 1st stage starting positions: however, the first eight places still had to compete in the Super Prime, a competition that happened at night of the same day.

Motorbikes
Ike Klaumann (9) was faster than his brother,Guto (5) in the Super Prime and guaranteed his place in the semi-finals. But Felipe Zanol (1), was the one who won first place in the final: he beat Ramon Sacilotti (6), with a difference of only 5 seconds.

Quads
In the first race of the quad semifinals, José Moura (207) beat Marcelo Medeiros (205) with a few hundredths of a second of difference, in the fiercest dispute in the Super Prime.

Cars
Last year’s champion duo, Guilherme Spinelli and Youssef Haddad (301), came in ninth position in the prologue and, therefore did not participate in the Super Prime. Klever Kolberg (327), however was disqualified in the Prime for having knocked over a bampi (tape used to mark the circuit’s trail). Reinaldo Varela (320) ran in his place against Jean Azevedo (304). Riamburgo Ximenes (302) was disqualified for the same reason as Klever. And Cristina and Beco’s car (312) had problems at the start of the semifinals, but managed to take off after a few seconds. The gave the audience a fright: upon landing from a jump, the car passed very near the public, but there was no accident

Trucks
The truck driven by André Azevedo/Ronaldo Pinto/Sidinei Broering had problems on the first curve and lost about 4 seconds.

Champions
The winners of the Super Prime were: Felipe Zanol (1) among the motorbikes; José Demontier Moura (207) among the quads; João Franciosi/Rafael Capoani (309) among the cars and the trio Edu Piano/Davi José De Oliveira Fonseca/Solon Mendes among the trucks.

Summary of the first stage (Wednesday, 8/10): from Goiânia (GO) to Pirenópolis (GO)

On the first day of the competition, the riders/drivers faced 235 kilometers between Goiânia (GO) and Pirenópolis (GO ), with 143 kilometers of initial liaison, 83 of Special and 9 of final liaison.

Motorbikes
An accident took Tiago Fantozzi (12) out of the competition. The rider, Juca Bala (13), who was right behind, stopped to help. Fantozzi was taken to a hospital in Anapolis (GO). He had an exposed fracture on his right elbow. Five other riders had navigation problems around kilometer 147. They needed help from the organization to get out of the entanglement, but they lost the stage for having exceeded the test’s time limit. Also, a penalization changed the final result of the first stage: Felipe Zanol ended up as official winner.

Quads
Bruno Sperancini (208) took a fall at kilometer 207. He injured his left humerus (shoulder bone). Now, André Suguita (201) had mechanical problems and abandoned the stage. Also a penalization changed the final result of the first stage: Marcio Oliveira ended up as official winner.

Cars
The car driven by João Franciosi/Rafael Capoani had a punctured tire. Although they were able to return to the race at around, 13:40, the vehicle was overtaken by the duo Jean Azevedo/Emerson Cavassin. The cars driven by Paulo Sergio Lima/Daniel de Andrade and Riamburgo Ximenes/Stanger Eler stopped due to mechanical problems. And oseana Koerich, navigator of car 322, called her team, informing that she was having ignition problems in her car. Soon afterwards, a truck hit her car. No one was hurt. She, and the driver, Helena Deyama went back to the race, but without their car door. Reinaldo Varela and Eduardo Bampi were the first to complete the Special. Of the 59 cars that started the test, four didn’t complete the stage.

Trucks
The support car of the truck driven by Amable Barrasa/Raphael Bettoni/Evandro Luiz Bautz was authorized by the organization to transit on the wrong side of the road in the route of the special, with the intention of arriving at the place where the truck was stopped. The distance covered by the trucks on this stage was less than that of the motorbikes, quads and cars, because characteristics of the route. “The Special was very hard and heavy, with erosion, ditches, and stones”, declared Guido Salvini, champion of the stage.

Champions
The winners of the first stage of the rally were: Felipe Zanol (motorbike); Márcio Oliveira (quad); Guilherme Spinelli/Youssef Haddad (car); and Guido Salvini/Flavio Bisi/Fernando Chwaigert (truck).

The second stage totaled 590 kilometers between Pirenópolis (GO) and Porangatu (GO), with 40 kilometers of initial liaison, 292 of the Special and 258 in the final liaison. On this day, the competitors faced sand, stone, gravel, sierra, narrow curvy stretches, on mountain ridges, and trials on stone and pasture. “It was the most complete stage that we managed to make up to now”, said Edu Sachs, Technical Director of the Rally.

Motorbikes
The rider, Deni do Nascimento (8) had mechanical problems, having to return to the starting point.

Quads
The day was very difficult for the quad riders: of the seven who started, four did not complete the course (Marcio Oliveira, Marcelo Medeiros, Charles Ercirio da Silva and Andre Suguita). The last one had a head-on collision with the car driven by Luis Eduardo Stedile/Deco Muniz (315). Though he was not injured, André had to abandon the stage. The rider Marcelo Medeitos (205) suffered a fall on kilometer 167 of the special. He had to be attended by the medical team, that he had dislocated one of his arms. At the time of the accident, he was helped by the rider Pedro Bianchi (21). Medeiros didn’t have to be rescued, but was not able to finish the stage

Cars
One of the most serious incidents was the turning over of Willem Van Hees/Doris Van Hees’ car (350), on kilometer 264. They needed to be airlifted, because Doris broke two fingers, one with an exposed fracture. Now, the car driven by Stephan Alexander Spremberg/Eduardo Soneca (317) had mechanical problems on kilometer 265. They only managed to return to the race after 35 minutes. The duo, Riamburgo Ximenes/Stanger Eler (302), weren’t so lucky: they didn’t manage to complete the stage, also due to mechanical problems. The driver, Paulo Nobre ( Palmeirinha), and the navigator, Filipe Palmeiro (314) , almost had to leave the stage because of a stone that yanked off one of their wheels. The piece of rock also damaged this wheel’s brake, and they completed the last 100 kilometers with brakes on only three wheels.

Champions
The winners of this stage in the four categories were: Felipe Zanol among the motorbikes; Tom Rosa on the quads; Guilherme Spinelli/Youssef Haddad among the cars; and Edu Piano /Solon Mendes/Davi Jose de Oliveira among the trucks.

The third stage, totaling 455 kilometers between Porangatu (GO) and Gurupi (TO), with 66 of initial liaison, 285 of the special and 104 of the final liaison. The Special began with a stretch going through farms and then entered into unprecedented areas in the Sertões: narrow passes, with stones and sierra ridges. Immediately after, the test went through a mining area and then went back to wider roads, with the final kilometers being fast with longer straight stretches, humps and steps.

Motorbikes
The motorbike riders gave the medical team trouble on this day. Paulo Sérgio Scapulatempo (63) abandoned the Special with an injured hand. Daniel Oliveira (61) fell of his motorbike on kilometer 141. Paulo Vieira (104), who was coming right behind, stopped to help him. Daniel fractured his humerus. Also, Aroldo Pulze (48) stopped at a support tent, complaining of pains in his collarbone.

Quads
Of the seven quads that are still in the running, only two didn’t complete the stage: Leonardo Vieira Franco (209) and Charles Ercirio da Silva (211).

Cars
Cars number 304 (Jean Azevedo/Emerson Cavassin), 307 (Luis Gustavo Moretti/Neurivan Calado) and 315 (Luis Eduardo Stedile/Deco Muniz) did not start, because they didn’t manage to retrieve the stamp card from the organizing committee. Various vehicles had mechanical problems during the day, like the duo Hugo Rodrigues/Kaique Bentivoglio (313), who lost a wheel. Furthermore, Reinaldo Varela/Eduardo Bampi (320) stopped at kilometer 190 with a puncture in the left back tire.

Trucks
The trucks had a shorter Special in relation to the other classes this Friday. The total for the giants was 216,81 kms in comparison to 285 for the other vehicles. Five truck started and only that of Amable Barrasa/Raphael Bettoni/Evandro Bautz (402) didn’t complete the day, as it broke down

The fourth stage totaled 206 kilometers between Gurupi (TO) and Porto Nacional (TO), with 15 km of initial liaison, 142 of Special and 49 of final liaison. It was a relatively short day, with a fast Special, on roads with good ground, with humps, a few river crossings, and just a few radar zones. Afterwards, a more blocked center with navigation, and the last part, a high speed motorway of 30 or 35 kilometers, with good ground, a few curves and bridge crossings.

Motorbikes
A relatively calm day for the motorbikes. Two riders left the stage due to technical problems: Juner Rockenbach (100) and Lucas Generosi (101).

Quads
The rider, Marcio Oliveira (202) also had mechanical problems with his quad and required help from the support team. Afterwards, he quit this special.

Cars
Alsoa calm day. The car driven by the duo Maurício Bortolanza/Gustavo Bortolanza (308) had a punctured tire. Anderson de Souza/Lourival Roldan’s car (318) fell into a ditch, on kilometer 106 of the Special. And the car driven byLeandro Torres (325) had problems in the radiator.

Trucks
Five trucks completed the special, that was won by the trio Edu Piano/Davi de Oliveira/Solon Mendes. The sixth truck in thye competition, the trio, Amable Barrasa/Raphael Bettoni/Evandro Bautz’s (402), did not manage to cross the finish line.

This was the first stage of the marathon, when the riders/drivers cannot receive mechanical support during the day, and at the end of the stage, their vehicles are put away in a closed park. The stage had a total of 485 kilometers, with 144 of initial liaison, 340 of special and 1 of final liaison.

Motorbikes
Navigation was difficult for the riders this Sunday. Paulo Gonçalves (20) and Ike Klaumann (9) got lost. Even so, Paulo came in third. Ronaldo Imay (65) fell on kilometer 79 of the Special, he had to be attended to by the medics, but they found no serious injury. However, the driver had to abandon the stage. The most serious accident of the day happened to David Frétigné (10), who was found unconscious by other riders. He was rescued. At the hospital they found a brain clot. He was awake and conscious and is feeling well. The two motorbikes that didn’t complete the day’s stage: Juca Villella (33) e Ronaldo Ymai (65).

Quads
Out of the six quads that started, Marcelo Medeiros and Andre Suguita did not complete the first stage of the marathon.

Cars
The cars also had a hard time with navigation. The duo, Guilherme Spinelli/Youssef Haddad (301) got lost right at the beginning of the special, at kilometer 24. Maurício Bortolanza/Gustavo Bortolanza’s car (308) had problems with the fuel pump, but they returned to the race. However, the duo Sven Fischer/João Stal (351) was obliged to abandon the stage, also due to mechanical problems. And Cleomano de Sousa and Jorge Santana (357) had their car radiator perforated.

Trucks
The four trucks that started managed to complete this stage. Edu Piano/Solon Mendes (405) made the Best time among the lights. Among the heavies, Guido Salvini/Flávio Bisi were the victors.

Champions
With the accumulated results, Cyril Despres (motorbikes); Márcio Oliveira (quad), Rafael Cassol and Lelio Júnior (cars); and Amable, Evandro and Raphael (trucks), were in first place in the Sertões International Rally up to then.
